In which Enda asks just how many Freemasons tracks can you take before you start yearning for Motörhead’s Ace of Spades?

This mix is partially inspired by my first foray into DJing when my noisy Soulwax tracks brought the gay boys up to the box to (nicely) demand Freemasons.

I love me some Freemasons as much as the next boy. After all they have managed to miraculously convert some of Beyoncé’s dreadful robo-R&B stuff into swingorilliant disco stormers. They’ve just done the same for Moby and their own stuff is pretty ace too.

It’s Mix Time: Drink Canada Dry

I was going to wait til next week to share the new mix so that I could start with “Free at last! Free at last!”, but to hell with it, here it is.

I’m off to Canada for a fortnight from Sat 28th. Good timing, as the day before I will have handed in my 4,000 word assignment for the OU (which is currently at an, ahem, interesting stage…)

We’re starting in the west in Vancouver then making our way across the country taking in various cities and ending up in Toronto. With a bungee jump somewhere in there (and car hire: I have to drive a few hundred kilometres on the wrong side of the road – I’m not sure which is more terrifying!).

Mix Time! Funk You, Beaver!

It’s my first Haji-free mix! Not quite girly house, not quite indie fare; shall we call it Yorkie House? It’s chunky and thick and not for girls*.

While I often mix with my pals, Kev & Garv’s spacious dining room in mind, I don’t think this one will suit. It’s a tad harder in places than we’re used to, but we like it hard every now and a-(oh stoppit!). The Vandalism remix of Rihanna is seriously fcuked up (sorry Garvan!).

I also put my Prefab Sprout/Drill thing in. I don’t care if I’m the only person that likes it (besides, the more I put it about, the better chance of the PS fans finding it and getting really annoyed – hee hee!)

Pugilistic Tendencies

Yay!!Yes, another one…The 80s one was fun, even if the Joe Le Taxi bit caused much disgruntlement despite assurances from me to “wait a minute, wait a minute”. Sheesh, it’s SO difficult for an artiste these days! Anyway, normal service is resumed with the current crop of big room funky house floorfillaz and some golden mouldies for good measure. It’s Friday and the weekend’s just begun! Work is seasonally hectic and much of my spare time is now being demanded by my Open University course, so it’s vital for me to wind down with a nice glass of wine and a mix to make.The title comes from a secondary school Business Organisation teacher I had who had an amazing ability to come up with bizarre, yet literary, lines for students to write as punishment. My favourite was one dished out to two boys who were solving a eceonomics dispute with their fists. They had to write, 100 times, “I must confine my pugilistic tendencies to the ring”. Twenty years later, that’s still in my head.
