‘Space age exotica’ with a very trippy video from El Guincho, a spectral Depeche Mode cover from Saint Saviour and another collaboration between the unlikely pairing of Kanye West and Bon Iver.
El Guincho: Bombay
El Guincho, or Pablo Díaz-Reixa as his madre calls him, makes chunky sample-driven psych pop not a million miles away from the clever clogs likes of Animal Collective, Yeasayer et al. ‘Bombay’ comes from his Pop Negro album and sounds like the sound of that moment when you know your summer will come to an end… but not just yet.
Oh and the video is quite something. If your workplace is not suited to tasteful exposure of ladies’ boobs and general oddness, you might want to watch this elsewhere.
Saint Saviour: Enjoy The Silence
Probably best known for her contributions to Groove Armada’s Black Light album (especially the Daddy or Chips? endorsed ‘Paper Romance’), London warbler Saint Saviour is gearing up for her own album due later this year. It’s generally a good idea for a new act to do a cover for the blogs. Oh, look, it worked…
Kanye West feat. Bon Iver: Lost In The World (demo)
Even if this track was bobbins, I’d be well disposed towards it as I love just the idea that Kanye West would make something with Bon Iver. Kanye is very annoyed that this track has leaked as he reckons it’s not finished. If this huge Bon Iver-sampling belter is his idea of unfinished, I can’t wait to hear the finished product.
